And so it goes on...

A poem written on 1 Nov 2016

The loss of a dream
Like the death of a loved one,
An old habit discarded
Like an old coat
Worn out and tired.

It's yesterday's news
But still hurts to the touch.
Reality blinds with unreckoned brightness,
Tears spring sudden and unsought.
The loss the loss the loss.

Gasping for air
The will is strong but subdued.
A child stripped of innocence
Will still look if not act.
Willing away the doubt.

I am old but I learn.
I am young enough still.
But the old hopes and dreams
Must be laid now to rest.
Goodbye goodbye goodbye.

The lips will still smile.
The arms will still hold.
The heart must be still.
The soul is grown cold.
The loss will be borne.

And so it goes on.
