Of Dreams
Dream and be immersed in illusion.
Delude yourself that this is what you will have.
Dare to nurture it and a double-edged sword is born.
It glistens and glimmers in unnatural light.
It splits you open wide.
Your palms hurt with the hurt inside,
Your chest heaves with sorrow.
But fool you to have trusted that
Insidious snake to follow.
For what but a dream will stoop so low?
Dream, but dream for you,
Dream for the children you have borne.
Dream for small, tangible truths.
Dream not for the world.
Dreams choose those they know
Will make them come true.
Not those who fear their own shadow.
Somewhere in a dream I woke.
I forgot I had fallen asleep.
Lulled as I was by my own sweet lullabies
Sung to keep the fears at bay.
The waking is still a haze,
Baby steps will slowly make
Their way into the dream that is not.
